IMO is present at the UN Trade and Development Global Supply Chain Forum (21-24 May), with two Parallel Sessions on “Climate change mitigation and energy transition” and on “Unlocking opportunities for green shipping in the Caribbean.”

Climate change mitigation and energy transition

The parallel session will discuss the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from shipping and accelerate the sector’s energy transition. Participants will discuss the challenges and opportunities arising from decarbonization in maritime transport, including for Small Islands Developing States (SIDS). The event is co-organized by IMO and UN Trade and Development.

Unlocking opportunities for green shipping in the Caribbean

The parallel session will discuss the opportunities and challenges for green shipping in the Caribbean, and SIDS in general. Participants will engage in interactive discussions focusing on the implementation of 2023 IMO GHG Strategy, the underlying needs and gaps facing Caribbean SIDS and how these can be tackled. The event is organized by IMO.

Parallel sessions participation

The two parallel sessions target Government officials and policymakers, governmental and non-governmental organizations, industry, civil society groups, the private sector, financing institutions, development partners and all parties interested or involved in issues related to transport, shipping, ports, logistics, trade, supply chains, decarbonization, technology and energy including low and zero carbon fuels.
