Regional Webinars on Fishing Vessel Safety
A series of webinars promoting the importance of the 2012 Cape Town Agreement on fishing vessel safety were held from November 2020 - January 2022.
The webinars - organized by IMO in cooperation with interested Member States, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Labour Organization (ILO), and The Pew Charitable Trusts - provided a platform to gain more insight into the Agreement, and share lessons learned from States that have already ratified the Agreement, or are currently in the process of doing so.
The objective of the series was to maintain the momentum of the Ministerial Conference, held in Torremolinos, Spain in October 2019. By sharing lessons learned by States that have already ratified the Agreement, or are currently in the process of doing so, the webinars helped to identify any barriers that hinder progress towards the widespread acceptance and effective implementation of the Agreement.
A number of countries that participated in the webinars have now ratified the agreement – and others have reiterated their intention to do so prior to the tenth anniversary of the adoption of the Agreement, on 11 October, 2022.
